A Day / Poetry

Carpe diem!
Seize the day!
Seize my ass, you say
I do, of course
You smile then
It’s nice, that smile
You don’t have to seize
the day, I say
just have a day
You nod, slowly
I promise to have
a day, you say
It surprises me,
how it jumps,
my chest
as the morning sun
catches the fridge
I bought some cheese,
I say,
while you stare
at the light
I like cheese, you say
I like it a lot
Then you cry
It’s so quiet that place
Between liking cheese
and
trying to have a day
It’s OK, I say
I like it too
You move past me
A hand on my stomach
Tomorrow I won’t cry
over cheese, you say
only over
spilt milk
